The Insinkerator Evolution Excel is simply the best!!!! This year for Thanksgiving a guest was helping in the kitchen and put a large amount of potato peels down the disposer. I was concerned because not only was the disposer jammed full of potato peels but there were a bunch of peels in the sink waiting to be stuffed into the disposer. (This has happened with our old disposer and I got the privilege of trying to unclog a clogged sink - not a fun thing to do with a house full of company). I watched her turn on the disposer and to my amazement they were all disposed of without a jam. At this point the Evolution Excel was worth every penny I paid for it. My only complaint about this disposer is that is almost too quiet. When you turn it on you can barely hear it run. I have to remind myself to insure it has been turned off because you get a quiet hum when it is running not like the old disposer that was LOUD. Piece of junk not worth more than 50$

This product lasted 2.5 years and then broke and needed a 450$ overhaul. Our cellar was designed by professionals who insulated as per the highest standards.

The HVAC repairman told us they all break after 2-3 years and need the radiator and compressor replaced. ALL OF THEM. I originally purchased the Sanyo SR-4912M refrigerator in November 2007. Ice collected on the back of the refrigerator and ALL my food froze. Since there is no authorized repair company in my area Sanyo replaced it with a new refrigerator which worked fairly well for about 7 months. I bought a digital thermometer with an inside probe so that I could obtain a more accurate reading (I checked the accuracy of the thermometer with other thermometers and refrigerators). The temperature fluctuates from the 20's F. to the 50's F. and freezes my food. The highest safe temperature for a refrigerator is 40 F. The Sanyo rep at 800-421-5013 said that it is in the 50's when it is defrosting. I challenge that the auto defrost cycle should take 4-6-8 hours--if this is how the Sanyo refrigerator functions then they are putting food in the danger zone for bacteria to grow and cause food poisoning. I was informed that the warranty on the original refrigerator has expired and therefore this replacement refrigerator has no warranty coverage except for the compressor. The Sanyo rep could not understand why I am upset. Since I now have had two (2) Sanyo SR-4912M refrigerators and neither of them has functioned adequately I think this speaks volumes to the lack of quality and DANGER TO HEALTH of this refrigerator. Independence!

I have only had this dryer for about 10 days now but I'm very happy with it! There is one other review for this dryer and in it they say it takes a long time for the clothes to dry... this is true. But I think it's to be expected since this dryer can simply be plugged into any outlet unlike a normal dryer. So smaller dryer... less power... longer drying time. The reason I'm giving this unit 5 stars is because if getting out the laundry mat is as important to you as it was to me then the extra drying time is more than acceptable. Also this dryer is VERY QUITE simple to use and set up. For the first 5 loads I just had the machine sitting on the floor near a window - I didn't even have the hose out the window. It did get my apartment a little warm and humid (not since I've put the hose out the window of course) but I'm just making the point that it is very easy to set up.



How long does it take to dry clothes? I'm still trying to get all the drying times down myself. But I'm having much better luck using the timed dry instead of the auto dry. On auto drying it does seem to take hours before it finally stops. So I've just started to try and figure how long certain things dry. For example my sheets (fitted bottom and the top sheet) I'm drying now between 60 or 90 minutes. On both times the sheets are close to dry and hanging them up for a little longer is enough. I guess this review is a little premature since I don't have the dry times down yet. But I have the feeling 90 minutes will dry most stuff about 90 percent.



I think once I make the adjustment and get things organized drying will not be a hassle at all. And for me the extra fiddling I have to do while drying in my apartment is so much better than having the hassle of organizing taking everything out of apartment waiting digging up quarters using a machine that has been used 100000 times instead my nice new machine.



UPDATE! THE SOLUTION! March 18 2009



I have owned now the Haier Washer and Haier Dryer now for 5 months and I still am incredibly happy with my purchase. Even with the very long drying times with the dryer I love not having to go down to the W&Ds in the apartments laundry room.



But there is a solution to the long drying time with the dryer: Not long after posting my review C. Mok posted this comment (note: the spin dryer is very small 24 inches high 14 inches in diameter - $134.00 + shipping - and only one company seems to sell them in the US):

May I suggest complementing your electric dryer with a small spin dryer? I bought a spin dryer on a whim when I remembered those were the only things used in Asia when I was there during the 80s. It has worked really well along side my small portable washer in my small apt. I hang dry most of my laundry except when I'm in a hurry. The spin dryer cuts drying time in half easily. Most spin cycle on washers go about maybe 600 - 800 rpm. The little spin dryer spins at 3000rpm. On a small wash (2 bath towels) it can spin out over a quart of water (over 32fl oz) in less than 2 minutes. That is a significant amount of water to evaporate using normal dryers. This will shorten your drying time and also save your clothes from heat damage from the prolong drying times. The only catch is trying to balance the load in the small spin dryer. I find it easiest to load all the heavy cotton clothes on the bottom and the lighter synthetic clothes on the top. Then give it a good shove and compress everything tightly down. I finally bought the spin dryer to work with my Haier dryer about a month ago and now washing and drying is very similar to using normal sized machines. Now there is just a very short middle step. I'll give examples of some of the basic loads I do each week.



Whites (socks 10-12 pair underwear 10-12 pair t-shirts 2-4):



After using the washing machine I put all clothes in the spin dryer. It is important to pack the spin dryer the way the manual suggests to prevent the dryer from bouncing around like R2-D2 in a bad mood. With small items like socks and underwear though it's pretty easy and after experience you will see what you can just drop and press in the SD (spin dryer)and what you need to wrap around. I does sound like this middle step is a pain but after you use it a bunch of times it's pretty easy and you don't give it a second thought. When you turn the SD on it starts to spin shakes a bit then settles down and gets very quiet as it picks up speed. When you first use the spin dryer you think wow i got ripped off! No water is coming out!.... But wait... after about 30 seconds water starts flow out. Dribbly at first but then... wow! With a full load CUPS of water fill your water catcher. I have had between 1 and 5 cups of water (normally 2-3) depending on what I was washing. Once the water flow starts to slow down you turn off the machine. It only takes 2-3 minutes.



I then take my clothes and put then in the Haier dryer and set the timer to 90 minutes. After 90 minutes the clothes are BONE DRY. I'm not sure how long it actually takes but if the load is a little smaller there is a very good chance they will be dry after only 1 hour.



Darks: 2 pairs of pants 6-8 T-shirts 1 sweat shirt. In the SD you do now need to put the pants in first wrapped into the bottom of the machine then the sweat shirt then the shirts. Again after 90 minutes - bone dry (as I said they are probably done after 70 min? 80 min? I'm not sure because I just open it after the buzzer goes off.



Sheets (king size): OK sheets are the only thing that I wash that can be slightly problematic. Because these are large items they can make R2-D2 (the spin dryer) unhappy. You have to be the most careful here wrapping them into the spin dryer. In the Haier Dryer also they can at times ball up. I normally wash 2-3 sheets at a time. Put them all in the spin dryer at once then in the Haier dryer for 60 minutes EACH. I found that they don't ball up when you dry them separately. So yes it would still take you 2 hours to dry 2 sheets.



The Washer and dryer are freakishly quite but the Spin Dryer does have a lot of vibration at the beginning and end of it's 2-3 minute spin. Not a big deal because of the short time but if you have thin floors and a neighbor under you they might wonder what is going up every 45 minutes for 3 minutes while you are doing laundry. I suggest getting 1 or 2 thick squares of carpet.



UPDATE July 6th 2009



I did just read the comment from someone who had problems ordering a spin dryer. I can't speak for that company other than mine arrived on time and in good shape and still works like new. I did go to the BBB link and did only see 1 complaint about the company.



For reasons I don't understand I was only ever able to find 1 company in the US that sells a spin dryer. Maybe some enterprising individual might think of importing some from a country that uses them more and start a business selling them. I had a friend who told me that they are pretty common in Europe. (Note: I do remember I had to wait a month to order a spin dryer from the Laundry Alternative because they were out of stock. I'm not vouching for the company - just giving my personal experience.



November 6 2009 UPDATE



I was curious to see how long I've had my washer and dryer to calculate how much I've saved in quarters (13 months x $20 = $260). It's been over a year so I thought I'd add a first year update. The washer dryer and spin dryer all work like new. Which is great I'm not sure if I'm lucky or not but in my case they are fine. I did make the decision not to use bleach early on. I'm not sure if that has made any difference.



As far as drying. I reread my review and while it is true if you use the spin dryer before the Haier dryer your wash will be bone dry in 90 minutes that is with a small-med load. If you fill the dryer to the max. It will take 2-2.5 hours to dry. I just make sure to do medium loads more often.



My mom told me a secret to drying sheets! I still dry one sheet at a time for 90 minutes but my mom said AND SHE WAS RIGHT if you put in a DRY towel (I use a big one) the sheet does not ball up while it spins. This has made a big difference in drying sheets which are a pain to dry. I also bought a retractable clothesline from amazon. So when I dry sheets (I don't use the spin dryer for sheets because the sheets are so big they can make the spin dryer go out of balance) I hang one on he clothes line and they dry 1 for 90 minutes. Then I take the one out of the dryer and put it on the clothes line and put the one one from the clothes line in the dryer. Sometimes I have to put a sheet in for another 30 minutes.



Also you really do need pull out and clean out the filter after every load. It really makes the drying time MUCH faster because it allows the air to flow out of the machine. You have to clean the lint off the "catch" and also the black filter thingy. Someone posted that an improvement on removing the filter would make the dryer a lot better. I totally agree with that.



The bottom line is: It depends on your personality; which do you dislike more? Digging up quarters piling up your soap on your clothes in a basket and making a bunch of trips to the laundry room once a week or setting up these crazy contraptions in your apartment and turning your laundry doing into an art form where you have to get creative and be a little unorthodox.

InSinkErator is still the best

This is the 2nd disposal that I have installed. Our old house was on county sewer so we did not need the added benefits of the Septic Assist. It was much more difficult to install than the new one.



The box includes nearly everything you need to install it. The only other things you need to have on hand is the plumber's putty to seal the flange in the sink and some romex to attach the power. I did the job solo but it would have been helpful to have another pair of hands to hold the drain in the sink while I cliped on the locking ring. Now that InSinkErator has the removable rubber seal that slips into the drain from the top mounting the unit to the twist lock under the sink was a breeze. Since the power was already run to an outlet under the sink I had this installed in under an hour.



I don't know how long the bottle of Septic Assist will last but we have used it for a week without a noticable lowering of the contents of the bottle.



Running the unit is much quieter than the old ones. It's not silent but the combination of vibration dampers and insulated chassis makes it quiet enough to talk over. It's more of a hum than a roar.



All in all a relief to have a disposal again at the new house. Of course only time will tell what impact it will have when we need to get the septic pumped. We plan to have it pumped every 2 years in order to keep the risk of overflow to a minimum.More detail ...

Works great But you need to practice a bit

I got this as a gift and LOVE it!!



2 of my kids have small ear canals and have frequent ear infections so we can not use the ear thermometer (you can't use it on kids under 1 anyway). And waiting for a rectal reading on a squrimy baby was a challenge



I was shocked to read bad reviews on another site. My husband had some problems at first (like these people's complaints) but I figured out that he was pulling it away from our kids head and was still holding down the button for a second which was then adding to the calculations the room temperature. Depending on how long he continued to hold it down after pulling it away it really made the temperatures flucuate. My readings would only vary by .1-.2 degrees.



So Practice a couple times when you first get it. (Across the forehead down the temple and stop infront of the ear). BEFORE YOU PULL IT UP LET GO OF THE BUTTON!!!. It will beep as soon as you let the button go and has your reading. It takes some practice to be really quick (our peditricion is super quick but they practice dozens of times a day).



If the forhead is sweaty you can also just hold it for a second or so behind the ear but again wait for the beep before pulling away.

So I bought this washer about a month ago and I have to say that even though I was so excited to be doing laundry in my apartment I found this washer not as convenient as I would have liked considering that I had to babysit it.



Here is my list of pros:

1)You can do laundry in your own home! As a New Yorker I can not overstate the convenience of this. I would write more about this but since this is the reason I bought it...

2)It fit about 10-12 items in it. This included pants skirts underwear and shirts. I mixed it up.

3)The control panel is real nice. smooth even.

4)Even without the mufflerit's an okay volume (see below).



Here is my list of cons:

1)It arrived dented. Not only were the thingees that were supposed to connect it to the sink dented but so far I have not been able to attach the bottom sound muffler plastic plate because the body of the washer is too dented to do that.

2)I have to babysit it. I know I already mentioned that but here are the deets: it would do a wash cycle and then tell me that there wasn't enough water coming through the sink. How much water do you need little fella? The sink was turned all the way on and streaming away so maybe consider hooking it up to a fire hydrant? Waterfall?

3)The metal widget to adapt to the sink (even if it had been undented) was well unique. They give you these rubber washers which are supposed to make things connect to your sink. These washers may work for others. For me? Nyet. So I went to the hardware store with my washer consulted with the plumbing dept and bought a different piece which I then installed to my sink (FYI apparently in plumbing there are either big threads or small threads and the threads on my sink were the wrong kind).

4) The drainage tube should be hung lower than the faucet. I found this difficult and logistically if you have a small apartment a bucket might be a good idea because otherwise the spin cycle does not get all the water out unless the drainage tube is lower than the input tube.

5) No casters. It's on a furniture dolly because I wanted it to move around but I foolishly concluded that 'portable' and 'casters included' go together.

6)Terrible I mean TERRIBLE instruction booklet. I rate the instruction booklet negative 65 stars.

We are not professional cooks but a large family of 6 and we LOVE this stove

An afternoon of visiting a few stores and a price match with 10% off brought the price down to about $1800. Still not cheap... but we found out quickly that today $1000 doesn't even buy you a nice gas stove with extra features... just a gas stove cheaply made. We've owned this for about 2-months and it's fun to cook again! I can actually cook with 5 large pots and pans at the same time! They moved the burners out 3-inches so it's still 30" but you have more cooking area. I can boil water in 5 minutes program it to shut off after the food has cooked for a set period of time and the center burner cooks pancakes and bacon just perfectly at 6000 BTU's (all other stoves with oval center burners were 5000 BTU's). Sorry haven't tried the convection yet.... but it converts automatically. Have read other people's concerns over the fan noise honestly we haven't noticed but most of our cooking is done well under 425 degrees. The stove will give you a nice commercial look one burner gives you professional level 18000 BTU's and for the price it's a great choice. If you're a professional chef/cook I can't imagine you would be happy it would be all look and not enough power. But for us large family cooking 2-meals at home per day sometimes different items for the finicky kid it had all the extra features we wanted at a great price without getting into a commercial stove with a big price tag. Great product

The wine cooler does take a number of times to clean before the chemical smell finally goes but seems to be a well constructed unit for the price. My only real issue is the spacing of the draws and the fact each draw only holds 11 bottles 12 would have been nice. Does not work correctly out of box

Out of the box this unit will not function correctly. You will have serious problems with foaming beer because of 3 defects.



1. Temperature regulator does not sense liquid temperature. It is also located too close to the cooling plate and needs to be moved further away to get a more accurate reading.



2. The tower does not flow cool air and ambient temperature inside is much higher than it needs to be



3. The spigot is also non-conventional and doesnt encourage an even flow



As far as I know mine doesnt make any noises at all so I'm not sure what the other review is referring to or if they have a unit that isnt working correctly.



All of the above problems can be corrected.



Temperature -



a) Purchase a new regulator and bypass danby's.

b) Move the sensor away from its current position and put it in water to get a more accurate "liquid" reading.



Tower - Install a small fan to circulate air into the tower



Spigot - Replace with a standard one

I've had this unit for about 3 weeks and it's running quite well. It arrived quickly and undamaged. Packing could have been better but since it arrived OK no problem. It fits 18 normal wine bottles (750ml). It's quite quiet (certainly less noisy than the Cusinart I had). Temperature is adjustable and accurate. Obviously it allows for one temperature so if you like your white wines chilled you'll probably have to move it to the fridge and hour before you open the bottle.

Not as good as you may think

I ordered this item on September 14th. Didn't get delivered until October 4th. Way out of the time range that was initially given. Product information made it appear that all you would need to do is supply the Keg and get the CO2 tank filled. WAY OFF. The "regulator" that comes with the Kegerator doesn't regulate ANYTHING its simply an off on switch for the CO2. After spending 2 days wasting beer I took it to my local tavern and confirmed what I already thought. So I had to drive to my local Beer Supply store and spend an additional $50 for an actual regulator. Then I experienced the problem that any regulator you buy doesn't connect to the supplied air hose as it should. Next stop Ace hardware where i purchased new tubing and fittings (another $10 down the drain). Upon affixing my new regulator and air hoses I realized that the beer comes out WAY too fast causing an excessive amount of foam. Last trip to Ace Hardware and got a water flow restricter for another $3 and now at long last i finally have a fully operational kegerator. Cheers and have fun. More detail ...

Great little gas stove

We purchased this stove for a kitchenette we were putting in our home office. It's a very nice little stove with electric ignition. It functions well it was easy to install and burns very cleanly. We've had it for 3 months and used it lightly and everything is great.



Stylistically it's nice to look at as well. Overall I would recommend this product for someone who needs a light use two burner gas stove.



Here are the (minor) things that keep me from giving it a 5 star rating:



1) The on/off gas knobs are a little too close to the main burner. It would have been better if the main (larger) burner was in the rear. The actual layout won't burn the hair on your fingers or anything but it just feels a little tight/warm compared to a full-size stove.

2) The electric ignition is "manual" - you turn on the gas and hold down the knob in order to light the gas. When the gas is lit you release the knob. I would have preferred for the more normal system where you turn the knob all the way to maximum and the electric ignition goes on and then you back the knob off to turn the electric ignition off.

3) The electric ignition must stay on for a few seconds otherwise the gas flame goes right out. This period is noticeably longer than other electric ignition gas stoves I've used.



These three complaints are very minor and maybe other people wouldn't even notice (or perhaps prefer the way at least #2 and #3 behave now versus the alternatives).More detail ...

Great hood but need some improvement

We have installed the hood 3 weeks ago by ourselves. The vent duct we installed is vertical goes via kitchen cabinet attic and roof (We got the hood at Lowes but vent duct roof cap flash were from Homedepot). The instruction is clear easily to follow. I and my wife are very happy. All odors after cooking now are gone.

Pros: This is a great product. Looks very sleek with 4 fan speeds: three first speed (up to 300cfm) was quiet the Boost speed - 430cfm is a bit noisy but that is ok. The halogen light range (3 levels) is great.



The cons are: The inner case is not sealed well so not 100% air escapes outside. We put a a duct tape in the top to prevent air get back to the kitchen. Some air still gets back via two holes in the left and right edges. More detail ...
